Mr. Shockey was involved in Danville Area Community College as well as the Athletic program for almost 30 years. Dick came to Danville in 1989 and served as the Vice President of Finance and Administration, where he oversaw the athletic program from 1997 until his official retirement in 2005. He may have been "officially retired" in 2005, but his passion and work with the NJCAA Men's Division II Basketball Tournament never stopped. Mr. Shockey worked diligently to bring the NJCAA Men's National Basketball Tournament to Danville in 1994 and he remained in that position until he passed away in November of 2018. He was the "Tournament Director" for twenty-five years and he is the reason the tournament is still in Danville today. There will never be another "Tournament Director" for the NJCAA Division II Basketball Tournament as it was retired with his passing. The tournament now has a new "Chairman" and all volunteers, committee members, and team leaders will strive to keep his legacy alive.
