Women's Basketball Falls to Lincoln Land in Region 24 Tourney

SPRINGFIELD, IL - The Lady Jaguars jumped out quick in their Region 24 quarterfinal game against the Lincoln Land Loggers last night to start the game.

Rylee Dowers knocked down the first basket for the Jaguars, making the score 3-2 early in the first quarter. Wariya Alhassan hit the and-one with the free throw to make it 6-2, then Jillisa Briggs followed with a layup to make it 8-2. Danville kept attacking the board and closed out the first with a 7 point lead, 19-12. Lincoln Land quickly tied it up at 17 before the Jaguars responded with a couple baskets of their own. Keiara Gregory, who tied for leading scorer of the game with 26 points, hit some key shots throughout the second quarter that helped keep the lead for Danville going into halftime with a 34-29 lead.

The Loggers closed the gap early in the third after a made 3 to make it 34-32, but the Jaguars had an answer with Wariya Alhassan hitting another and-one along with the free throw. Lincoln Land came back though, and would stretch their lead to 8 after another made 3. After a made layup from the Loggers, the score read 54-41 Lincoln Land at the end of the third. They continued to pull away in the fourth, and despite made shots from the Jaguars, it wasn't enough as the Loggers secured a win with a final score of 65-54.

With that loss, the Lady Jaguars finish the 2023-24 season with a 16-14 overall record and a 5-9 conference record.
