Lady Jaguars Lose Final Regular Season Game

Fall to Lincoln Land 84-55

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Women's basketball wasn't able to get a win for their final game of the regular season on Saturday as they traveled to Springfield to play #14 Lincoln Land.

It was hard to get things going against the Loggers as they went on a 11-0 scoring run to start the game. It was 20-4 with just under 5 minutes left to play before Danville's Wariya Alhassan scored a layup to make it 6-20. Lincoln Land took a 20 point lead after a pair of made free throws, and they closed out the first quarter 34-13. Keiara Gregory knocked down two free throws to make the score 38-15. Gregory was the leading scorer for the Jaguars as she had 16 points, and freshman Jillisa Briggs had a double double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. It was 48-28 to end the first half, Loggers with the lead.

Jayla Greer scored the first basket of the second half with a layup, and Jillisa Briggs followed with a layup of her own, making the score 32-50. After a made jumper from the Loggers, it was 64-40 at the end of the third quarter. Rylee Dowers knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers early in the fourth to make the score 46-66, and after a foul from Lincoln Land, Dowers was sent to the line to add two more. Lincoln Land was still able to pull away though, and they closed out the game with a 84-55 victory.

Danville is now 16-13 overall with a 4-9 conference record. They will enter postseason play as they await their opponent to start the Region 24 Tournament.
