DACC Softball On 9 Game Winning Streak

Team closes out 2024 regular season with wins

GODFREY & ST. JOSEPH, IL - The 2024 regular season for DACC softball has come to an end after a handful of wins from this past weekend.

Danville (31-13) has been on a winning streak recently, winning their last nine straight games. They hit the road last Thursday to face Lewis & Clark (5-30) in a doubleheader. The Jaguars jumped out quick and scored 2 runs in the first before Lewis & Clark scored 1 in the bottom half of the inning, making the score 2-1. It was 4-2 Danville after six innings, and then the Jaguars earned another run in the top of the seventh. They held the Trailblazers to only 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh, winning game one 5-4. Rylee Richey had 3 RBIs and 1 hit, while also having 2 strikeouts. Lauren Kehl got the win in the circle with 1 strikeout. 

DACC had a big second inning in game two against Lewis & Clark that helped them to an 11-2 victory. The Jaguars ended the game in a quick five innings after scoring 2 runs in the first, 5 in the second, 1 in the third, 2 in the fourth, and 1 in the fifth. They held the Trailblazers to their 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Alyssa Acton had 3 RBIs and 2 hits, and Rylee Richey got the win on the mound with 6 strikeouts. 

The team played in St. Joe, Illinois on Saturday and Sunday due to field conditions at Winter Park. They hosted Illinois Central (20-20) on Saturday for another doubleheader. The first game stretched out into extra innings after the score was tied at 2 runs a piece, both groups scoring in only the first inning. The game extended to nine innings before Danville got a walk-off win, getting the 3-2 victory over the Cougars. Kenley VanBibber, Ali Grenzebach, and Amaria Wall all each had 1 RBI. 

Game two was significantly shorter than game one as Danville ended it in five innings. They scored 7 runs in the second, giving them the 7-1 lead going into the third. It was 8-7 Danville going into the bottom of the fourth before the Jaguars scored 3 more, stretching the lead 11-7. The Cougars were only able to score 1 more run in the top of the fifth, but Danville got their lead to 10 runs by scoring 7 in the bottom of the fifth, giving them the 18-8 victory. Alyssa Acton had 5 RBIs and 3 hits, and Amaria Wall had 4 RBIs and 3 hits. Rylee Richey got the win on the mound with 4 strikeouts.

The Jaguars hosted John Wood (0-35) on Sunday in St. Joe for Sophomore Day and the final regular season game. Danville held the Blazers scoreless through four innings, entering the top of the fifth with a 20-0 lead. DACC scored 2 runs in the first, 13 in the third, and 4 in the fifth. John Wood was only able to score 3 runs in the top of the fifth, but the Jaguar's lead was too big to overcome, winning game one 20-3. 

It was another five inning game in the second contest against John Wood after the Jaguar's quickly scored their first 9 runs in the first inning. The Blazers only had 1 run on the board till the fifth inning, when they only scored just another run. Danville added 2 more in the second, 4 more in the third, and 1 more in the fourth, earning them the 16-2 victory. Rylee Richey, Kynedi Humphrey, Kennedy Hudson, and Gloria Richardson all had 3 RBIs. Richey got the win in the circle with 7 strikeouts. 

The Jaguars end the regular season with a 31-13 overall record, and a 16-8 conference record. Now they await seeding and opponent information for the 2024 Region 24 Tournament that will be played later this week. The winner of the tournament advances to the 2024 NJCAA Division II National Tournament.
