Jaguar Softball Falls Short in District P Championships

Season ends with 34-15 record

CHAMPAIGN, IL - After advancing out of the Region 24 opening round of playoffs last weekend with their wins against Heartland, DACC softball entered the District P Championship bracket this past weekend.

For Danville (34-15), their first task was to face St. Louis Community College (42-11) on Friday. It was a slower game offensively as both teams only combined for 9 hits total. The Jaguars were able to jump on the board first with a run in both the second and third inning, while the Archers had their only run scored in the bottom of the fourth. The 2 runs from Danville were enough to hold them over as they won game one, 2-1. Ali Grenzebach and Amaria Wall each had 1 RBI, while Molly Besser had 2 hits. Rylee Richey helped secure the win for Danville as she got the win in the circle, striking out 15 Archers total.

Game two on Friday was against conference foe, Parkland College (57-4). The Cobras grabbed 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning, and in the top of the fourth, Danville tied it up after a 3-run home run shot from Amaria Wall. The Jaguars were able to take the lead at 5-3 after the sixth inning off of a 2 RBI double from Kennedy Hudson. Parkland tied the game back up at 5 runs after two solo home runs in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game into extra innings. Danville was unable to get anything going offensively in the eighth, and they didn't get any runs across while having runners on first and third in the top of the ninth. The Cobras got a runner on first in the bottom half of the inning after a walk, and then won the game after a 2-run home run to center field, getting the 7-5 victory. Amaria Wall had her 3 RBIs and 1 hit, while Kennedy Hudson had 2 RBIs and 2 hits. Rylee Richey sat down 4 Cobras.

With that loss, Danville was going to have to climb their way back into the winners bracket by winning their next game. They faced St. Louis again Saturday morning where the Archers won after producing runs late in the game to get the 6-3 win. The Jaguars earned their 3 runs in the bottom of the second before St. Louis scored 1 run in the top of the fifth and 1 more in the sixth, and then they took the 6-3 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. Danville wasn't able to produce any more runs in the bottom of the seventh, losing to the Archers 6-3. Amaria Wall had 1 RBI and 2 hits, while Molly Besser and Gloria Richardson had 1 hit each. Rylee Richey had 8 strikeouts, and Lauren Kehl had 2 strikeouts.

Those losses ended the Jaguar's 2024 season, falling short of making it to the NJCAA National Tournament. They finished the year with a 34-15 overall record, and a 16-8 conference record.
