Softball Takes Down #1 Parkland

Team goes 5-1 on the weekend

DANVILLE, IL - DACC softball was victorious over the weekend as they played in some tough conference matchups starting last Thursday.

They went to Peoria to face the Cougars of Illinois Central (16-14) first on Thursday in a doubleheader where they won both. Danville (25-13) won the first game 4-0 and scored all 4 of their runs in the top of the sixth. Rylee Richey, Alyvia Jackson, and Kelsey Martlage all had an RBI. Lauren Kehl got the win in the circle, and Rylee Richey got the save as she struckout 3 batters in the remaining two innings.

The Jaguars won game two 6-5 against the Cougars after Richey gave a dominant performance on the mound, pitching all seven innings and earning 12 strikeouts. Offensively, Molly Besser had 2 RBIs and 2 hits, while Ali Grenzebach and Gloria Richardson each added an RBI.

Next up was Saturday's doubleheader at home against the #1 Parkland Cobras (46-4). The Jaguars were unable to get anything going offensively in the first game, and the Cobras had a couple big innings, scoring 5 runs in the second, and 7 runs in the fourth, helping them win 19-0. Pailei Cripe and Kennedy Hudson each had a hit for the Jaguars. Lauren Kehl had 1 strikeout, while Alyssa Acton had 2.

Rylee Richey provided the Jaguars with another big performance in game two, on both the mound and at the plate. It was scoreless through two innings, and in the bottom of the third, Gloria Richardson hit a pop up to shallow left center that earned her a single. Pailei Cripe was next up to bat where she got walked, advancing Richardson to second base. Alyssa Acton was next up in the lineup, and she got hit by a pitch, making the bases loaded for Rylee Richey. Richey hit a fly ball to shallow left field, scoring both Richardson and Cripe before Acton got thrown out at the plate. Those two runs were enough to secure the win for Danville as Richey pitched a shutout with 11 strikeouts, helping win the game 2-0.

Danville hosted the Loggers of Lincoln Land (14-28) on Sunday. The Jaguar's 4 runs in the bottom of the fourth helped hold over the Loggers through seven innings, win game one 6-3. Gloria Richardson had 2 RBIs and 3 hits for Danville, and Molly Besser, Amaria Wall, and Pailei Cripe each had 1 RBI. Lauren Kehl got the start in the circle where she earned a strikeout, and Rylee Richey entered for the final inning, striking out 3 batters.

Richey pitched another shutout in game two against the Loggers, helping the Jaguars get the 3-0 win. She had 9 strikeouts in all seven innings, while also having an RBI. Alyssa Acton and Amaria Wall also both had an RBI in this game.

Next up for Danville is a doubleheader at home against St. Louis Community College on Wednesday the 24th starting at 2 and 4 pm.
