New Year for the Jaguars

Basketball & spring sports underway

DANVILLE, IL - Jaguar basketball continues to trek through their seasons as both teams remain over .500 entering conference play. The men's team currently sits with an 8-4 overall record, while the women have an overall record of 9-4. 

The men hosted Malcolm X College back on November 30th where they beat the Hawks 77-56. Freshman Lorenzo McMillion and freshman Darius Davis led the team that game in scoring with 20 points and 16 points. They traveled to Illinois Valley Community College on December 6th where they fell to the Eagles 79-72. Ryan Caddell scored a team high 14 points, being 2-4 from the 3-point line, while Donovan Parker scored 12 points and was perfect from the free-throw line. The Jaguars stayed home for the next two games, hosting Olive-Harvey College and Prairie State College where they were successful in both, beating Olive-Harvey 93-65 and Prairie State 69-65. They were on the road against Rend Lake College on December 18th and against Moraine Valley Community College December 20th. They fell short to both, losing to Rend Lake 79-67 and Moraine Valley 86-82. 

The men's team will be back in action on the road on Wednesday, January 10th at Kankakee Community College at 7:30 pm in Kankakee, Illinois. Their next home game is Sunday, January 14th against Illinois Central College at 3 pm.

The Lady Jaguars have won their past 5 games. They quickly made it past Malcolm X College on November 30th on their home floor, winning 79-48. Brianna Hamilton scored a game high 28 points, with Keiara Gregory chipping in 17 points. Wariya Alhassan contributed a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. They defeated Triton College on the road Saturday, December 2nd 80-54. Keiara Gregory led the Jaguars with 29 points, while Rylee Dowers added 18 points, going 4-8 from the arc. Next was a victory over Olive-Harvey College at home on December 9th, with a final score of 92-61. Wariya Alhassan had another double-double with 11 points and 22 rebounds. Gregory led in scoring with 34 points, while Dowers contributed 22 points. They beat the Highland Community College Cougars at home on December 16th 91-57, and their most recent victory was over Lincoln Trail 79-65 on December 18th. 

The women's team will face the Elmhurst College JV team at home tomorrow, January 5th at 5 pm. They will travel with the men's team on January 10th to Kankakee, Illinois to face Kankakee Community College at 5:30 pm. Then they'll play at home again on January 13th against Illinois Central College at 1:30 pm.

Jaguar baseball and softball will soon be underway with their seasons both starting in February. Baseball will kick off their season when they travel to Millington, Tennessee for a tournament where they'll play Wabash Valley first on February 9th at 3:00 pm.
