Men's Basketball Advances to Region 24 Semifinal

Beat the Loggers in quarterfinal

DANVILLE, IL - The Jaguars were in a solid position from the start of last night's Region 24 quarterfinal game against the Loggers of Lincoln Land.

The Jaguars and the Loggers split their regular season matchups with Danville winning on February 3rd at home, and the Loggers winning on their turf on March 2nd. This time around, it was Danville who came out on top in a crucial post season win. The home team went out on a 10-0 run to start the game after Donovan Parker hit a short jumper, Terrence Ringo threw down a dunk, Ryan Caddell hit a 3, and Ringo got an and-one along with sinking the free throw. Lincoln Land was able to close the gap a bit after a made 3, and from there, it was a back and forth battle between the two very familiar teams. A steal late in the first half from Donovan Parker led Darius Davis to an easy layup, making the score 27-24 Danville going into halftime.

Terrence Ringo, who had another double double last night with 15 points and 11 rebounds, grabbed a defensive board and a layup early in the second half to stretch the Danville lead to 10, 36-26. Ryan Caddell tacked on two more after a made jumper, making it 38-26, but the Loggers slowly started to climb back as they knocked down a pair of free throws and a couple made layups, tying the game at 42 a piece. They took the lead after another made jumper, and it was a close game from then on. There were 2 ties and 3 lead changes in the second half alone, but after the Loggers hit a layup making the score 54-52 Danville, they fouled Ryan Caddell to send him to the line for 1-1, where he knocked down both, securing the win 56-52 over Lincoln Land.

With that win, the Jaguars are now 18-11 overall with a 7-5 conference record. They advance to the semifinal round of the Region 24 tournament where they face Parkland College at 1 pm on Saturday, at Rend Lake College. The winner of that game will play in the Region 24 Championship Sunday against the winner of the other semifinal which is John Wood versus Illinois Central.
