Men's Golf Working Towards National Tournament

Huge accomplishments in various matches

DANVILLE, IL - This year's group of men golfers have proven hard work pays off as they have succeeded in more than one match this spring season. In one of their first trips this season, they headed over to Bloomington, Indiana to play in the Spring Preview. The team came out on top when they shot a 310 total and beat some familiar opponents such as Rend Lake College, Vincennes University, and Lincoln Trail College. Caleb Lavender, the recent Eastern Illinois University commit, won the individual competition where he shot a 74 total. Grady Lancaster was able to tie for 2nd place as he shot a 77 total, Cameron Bergman tied for 7th when he shot a 79, Luke Mettemeyer tied for 10th with an 80, and Rocco Page came in 23rd with a 90.

The team then traveled to the Blackhawk Invitational at Blackhawk College in Moline, Illinois back on April 10th and 11th. Then they went to Illinois College on April 14th and 15th for the Blueboy Invitational, and then to Taylor University on April 17th. At their most recent match at Vincennes University, the team came in 3rd out of 8 teams as they shot a 631 total. Grady Lancaster came out in 1st place in the individual round as he shot a 67 and a 78 for a total of 145. Caleb Lavender tied for 13th as he shot a 159 total, Cameron Bergman tied for 18th with a 162, Luke Mettemeyer tied for 21st with a 165, and Rocco Page tied for 34th with a 177. The team has certainly grown over this whole year, and it's no doubt that they have tough competitors.

Head Coach Terry French made a few comments about his team:

"Mother nature has not been kind this spring for outside sports. I waited to schedule events as long as possible to hopefully grab warmer weather. Our season has been just about like the weather, up and down. The guys have worked extremely hard on the simulator and outside constantly. The team has struggled some to get opening rounds going, then trying to bring it back in the second round of tournaments. The team played in a preview event for the Region 24 District at The Phau Golf Course and came out with the victory along with Caleb Lavender winning the tournament. We have been able to play in some tournaments with 4 year colleges that help us push us to our goals. We just finished with the Vincennes Invite this past weekend, the team came out in 3rd place with Grady Lancaster winning the event. Grady started with a fantastic 67 to begin the event. This week the team will be preparing for our Region 24 District Tournament with an opportunity to qualify for the National Tournament. If we can shore up a few things this week in preparation, the team is close to everyone playing their best at the same time. I look for the team to be really prepared for next week."

The Region 24 Tournament will happen April 30th through May 2nd in Bloomington, Indiana and the National Tournament will take place May 23rd through the 26th in Plymouth, Indiana at the Swan Lake Golf Course.
