Final Four Bound: Men's Basketball Advances Past Palm Beach

DANVILLE, IL - The journey continues for the Jaguars as they were victorious in the quarterfinal round of the NJCAA National Tournament against the Panthers of Palm Beach State College.

Danville (27-4) stayed consistent against the #2 Panthers (33-2) throughout the entire forty minutes, earning the right to play in the final four Friday night. It was back and forth early in the first half, with both teams knocking down baskets and making stops defensively. Danville extended their lead to seven after a made 3-pointer from DeShawn Clark just under the four minute mark in the first half. The team was 44% in field-goals and 50% in 3-pointers in the first half, giving them the 32-25 lead at halftime. 

It was all the Jaguars in the second half, where they stayed on top and maintained their lead. Jeremiah Poniewaz scored the team ten points in the second half alone, and the team overall shot 51.9% in field-goals and 60% from the 3-point line. They held the Panthers to just 32.3% in field-goals and 30.8% from the 3-point line in the second half. Additionally, they forced eight turnovers and grabbed five steals to come out on top. The Jaguars were the ones who got the nineteen point win at 72-53, and will advance to the national semifinal Friday night.

Jeremy Wilson led the team with eighteen points, while Jeremiah Poniewaz added 16, and Elijah Starks added 11.

The Jaguars will await the winner between Milwaukee Area Technical College and Parkland College in the other quarterfinal matchup tomorrow night. They will face the winner on Friday at 8pm.
