Softball Splits Doubleheader with #18 Illinois Central

DANVILLE, IL - The Jaguars are nearing the end of the 2026 regular season, and are looking to finish strong. They hosted 18th ranked and conference opponent, Illinois Central College, in a doubleheader Thursday afternoon.

Game 1
Danville (38-10) gave up 4 runs in the top of the first to the Cougars (24-10) before they were able to bring across a run of their own in the bottom of the first. ICC added to their lead in the top of the second with 4 more runs to make it 8-1. The Jaguars responded quickly though, and cut the lead in half after bringing in 4 of their own in the bottom of the second. They then took the lead in the bottom of the third by scoring 5 runs, and then added 3 more in the fourth, and run ruled the Cougars in the fifth after scoring 3 more to make the final score 16-8.

Chloe Hunt's 3 hits and 6 RBIs, in addition to 3 RBIs from both Ka'Leah Bellik and Kendall Rannebarger and 2 strikeouts from Paige Froess, led Danville to the victory.

Game 2
A big 7 run inning in the third for Danville got them to a 9-2 lead in game two on the day. Illinois Central was able to answer though, and scored 3 runs in the fifth, 2 in the sixth, and 4 in the seventh to take the lead. They held off the Jaguars in the bottom of the seventh to take game two, 11-9.

Ka'Leah Bellik was 2-3 at the plate with 3 RBIs, while Mackenzie Fasig and Paige Froess each had 2 strikeouts.

Up next...
The Jaguars will host Lewis & Clark Community College on Saturday, April 18th in a doubleheader starting at 1pm.
