Men's Golf Places 2nd at MWAC Tournament

3 players finish in top 10

BLOOMINGTON, IL - The men's golf team traveled to Bloomington on Monday for the MWAC conference tournament. The Jaguars have been performing well recently, with players placing high on the leader board, as well as the team placing in the top 5 of their recent tournaments. The MWAC tournament was no different. The team started to play well, with Grady Lancaster tying for 3rd individually after shooting a 76 in the first round, and a 77 in the second round, finishing with a total score of 153. Lancaster was also named to the MWAC All-Conference team after the tournament finished. Blake Arnold and Luke Mettemeyer tied for 7th place with a total score 154 each. As a team, the Jaguars placed 2nd out of the 7 schools that were in attendance, with a final total score of 629.

Coach Terry French has been very pleased with the group's performance recently.

"The guys did a great job yesterday playing a very difficult golf course to finish in 2nd place," Terry said. "We had a few hiccups during the round, but the guys continued to fight and that's all a coach can ask. I think it was fantastic to have 3 players in the top 10 of the tournament with Grady grabbing an all conference selection. I was extremely proud of Luke Mettemeyer, he played great yesterday even though a couple of things happened that could have thrown him off, but he kept fighting and I think it was really a break through tournament for him."

French is also excited to see where the future of the men's golf program can go.

"As far as our fall season goes, it was definitely a success in leading us to bigger things. Blake Arnold had a great start to his year and our other freshman are improving. The guys are definitely learning the mental side and what it takes to compete with top teams. Our team has really worked hard on improving their games and it shows. They all know what we need to work on before the coming season. The spring season last year did not end the way they wanted, I know they have a chip on their shoulders and want to correct that."

"Our program continues on the rise, more talented players are taking notice and contacting us about what we are trying to achieve here," French said. "We have such great possibilities for players to excel both on the course and classroom, it is a fantastic opportunity here."
