Jaguars Moving Through the Season

Men's & women's teams seeing success

DANVILLE, ILLINOIS - The Jaguar basketball teams are pushing through their seasons and are seeing success. Within the past few weeks, there has been plenty of games played and plenty of travel. Since the Wabash Valley Classic (Nov. 11th & 12th)Ā they have played 6 games total and have only lost 1. Their only loss was on November 19th at Vincennes University (65-73). Their first win since the Classic was on November 16th at Lake Land College where they won 79-60. DaMeriz MerriweatherĀ led the way that game with 16 points and Ryan Caddell chipped in 14 points. They won again in Kankakee, Illinois againt Olivet Nazarene University's JV squad 85-68. Tyshay Epps was able to contribute 16 points and Kendall Taylor added 14 points. The next couple of games were held at Mary Miller Gymnasium against the Wabash College JV and Illinois Valley Community College. The Jaguars beat both with scores of 87-80 and 79-67. Kendall Taylor scored 21 points and Ramelle Arnold scored 18 points against Wabash. Ryan Caddell scored 16 and DaMeriz MerriweatherĀ 15 points against Illinois Valley. The team also beat Prairie State the other day (Dec. 6th) 73-70.Ā

On the women's side, they're sitting with a record of 4-3, but they're a tough team who has a lot of potential. They were unable to pull out wins in the Moberly Classic on November 4th and 5th. They lost to Moberly Area 54-83 and Vincennes University 77-82. When they returned to Danville to play on November 9th against Kankakee, they won 79-69. The team then traveled to Robinson, Illinois on November 12th to face off with Lincoln Trail where they won 78-62. Alexus Mobley was the leading scorer that game with 21 points and Candela NevaresĀ Garciá chipped in 18 points. Four days later they headed to Centralia, Illinois to play Kaskaskia and won 76-68. Mobley led the team again in scoring with 22 points, while Brianna Hamilton added 14. Their most recent two games were played back in Danville where they lost a nail-biter to Shawnee 66-70, but they won against Illinois Valley 96-48. There was lots of contribution scoring wise from a lot of the team in this game. Nevaeh Reaves scored 15 points, Mobley and Garcia had 13 points, and Maria SobanyĀ added 12.Ā

As we inch closer to the winter break, both teams are looking for some much needed rest to be fully prepared to tackle the rest of the season. Before then though, the Lady Jaguars will play again at home against Triton on Saturday, December 10th. The men will play again on Sunday, December 11th in Ina, Illinois against Rend Lake.Ā
