Baseball Drops Series to #15 Parkland

DANVILLE, ILLINOIS – The Jaguars were coming into the weekend hot.  Danville has held a steady 11-2 record, while suprassing MWAC opponents 7-1 in conference play.  The Jaguars hosted Parkland this past weekend, and lost the series.  Despite splitting with the Cobras on day one, Parkland was able to come away with the sweep when the Jaguars traveled to Champaign on Saturday.
 
Game One - 12-0 Loss
 
Danville fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 12-0 loss to Parkland on Friday. Parkland took the lead on a double in the first inning.
 
The Jaguars struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Parkland, giving up 12 runs.
 
A single by Jonathan Latham in the first inning was a positive for Danville Area Community College Baseball Jaguars Varsity.
 
Ryan Adams toed the rubber for Danville. The southpaw allowed eight hits and 12 runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Cole Hettsmanberger threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.
 
Zach Ungermann and Latham each managed one hit to lead the Jaguars.
 
Game Two - 9-6 Win
 
Danville defeated Parkland 9-6 thanks to a strong start. The Jaguars scored on a home run by Jonathan Latham in the first inning, a home run by Dawson Johns in the second inning, and a single by Ethan Hall in the second inning.
 
The base paths were crowded in this high-scoring game. Danville collected nine hits and Parkland had five.
 
The Jaguars pulled away for good with two runs in the second inning. In the second Johns hit a solo homer and Hall singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
 
Danville put up three runs in the third inning. The offensive onslaught by the Jaguars was led by Chase Vinson and Dustin Dupont, who each had RBIs in the inning.
 
Cj Backer led things off on the pitcher's mound for Danville. The righty allowed five hits and six runs over six innings, striking out seven.
 
Jaguars hit two home runs on the day. Johns had a dinger in the second inning. Latham had a four bagger in the first inning.
Dupont went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Danville in hits.
 
Game Three - 10-6 Loss
 
Both teams put up a bunch of runs, but Danville fell to Parkland 10-6.
 
The Jaguars opened up scoring in the second inning. Dustin Dupont drove in two when Dupont homered.
 
Danville notched four runs in the seventh inning. Jaguar batters contributing to the big inning included Kyle BartmanAndy BuntonJonathan Latham, and Chase Vinson, all driving in runs in the inning.
 
Jake Andriole was on the pitcher's mound for Danville. Andriole went four and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out four. Jaylen Decker threw one and one-third innings in relief.
 
The Jaguars launched one home run on the day. Dupont went deep in the second inning.
 
Dawson Johns led Danville with two hits in three at bats.
 
Game Four - 7-0 Loss
 
Danville fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 7-0 loss to Parkland on Saturday.
 
The Jaguars struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Parkland, giving up seven runs.
 
A single by Chase Vinson in the first inning was a positive for Danville.
 
Riley Hershberger led things off on the hill for Danville. The pitcher surrendered seven runs on six hits over four and a third innings, striking out eight and walking one. Jake Stipp and Dylan Henning entered the game as relief, throwing two and two-thirds innings and one inning respectively.
 
Kyle Bartman, Vinson, Andy BuntonNoah Laurent, and Ethan Hall each managed one hit to lead the Jaguars.
 
Danville will now switch gears to tackle non-conference opponent Kankakee on Tuesday.
