Softball Opens MWAC Play 3-1, Wins Over Lewis & Clark and Spoon River

GODFREY, ILLINOIS – The Lady Jaguars started MWAC Play off hot by sweeping Lewis & Clark by the final scores of 16-4 and 18-2 respectively. On Tuesday, the Jaguars traveled to Canton, Illinois to take on Spoon River.  Danville split with the Snappers after they lost game one 9-3, they picked up a thrilling victory in game two with an outstanding pitching performance by Kayla West

Game One
 
Despite allowing four runs in the fifth inning, the Lady Jaguars defeated Lewis & Clark 16-4 on Sunday. The offensive firepower by Lewis & Clark was led by Molly Novack, Dallas Zirkelbach, and Mia Key, who each had RBIs in the inning.
 
The Lady Jaguars notched eight runs in the third inning. Ashlynn McTagerttJordan WhartonShayla MillsBaylee ParkerKaitlyn Loewenstein, and Payten Redman each had RBIs in the frame.
 
Hannah Forrest earned the win for Danville. The bulldog surrendered four runs on six hits over five innings, striking out five.
 
Madeline Strieker took the loss for Lewis & Clark. The hurler went four innings, allowing 15 runs on 16 hits, striking out one and walking one.
 
The Lady Jaguars smacked two home runs on the day. Redman went for the long ball in the fifth inning. Danielle Shuey put one out in the fifth inning.
 
Danville had 18 hits in the game.  Shuey, Redman, Parker, Hailee Gifford, Mills, and Wharton all had multiple hits for the Lady Jaguars.  Redman and Shuey each collected three hits to lead Danville.  
 
Game Two 
 
Hailee Gifford was an RBI machine on Sunday, driving in seven on three hits to lead the Lady Jaguars past Lewis & Clark 18-2 on Sunday.  Gifford drove in runs on a single in the second, a double in the third, and a in the fourth.
 
Danville got on the board in the first inning.  Gifford singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.
 
The Lady Jaguars scored six runs in the third inning.  Baylee ParkerPayten Redman, Gifford, and Taylor Stal each had RBIs in the frame.
 
Alexia Ham was in the circle for Danville. Ham allowed five hits and two runs over two and a third innings, striking out two.
 
Katie Hutchinson led things off in the circle for Lewis & Clark. The bulldog surrendered 12 runs on 13 hits over two and two-thirds innings.  Madeline Strieker threw two and a third innings in relief.
 
Danville saw the ball well today, racking up 19 hits in the game.  Gifford, Kylie NeumanNatalie Shuey, Redman, Parker, and Stal all managed multiple hits for the Lady Jaguars.  Redman, Shuey, Neuman, and Gifford each collected three hits to lead Danville.  Danville was sure handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Gifford had the most chances in the field with seven.  The Lady Jaguars stole nine bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Neuman led the way with two.
 
Lewis & Clark tallied six hits.  Allison Beckman and Molly Novack each had multiple hits for Lewis & Clark.

Game One 
 
The Lady Jaguars out-hit Spoon River College ten to four, but it wasn't enough in a 9-3 loss on Tuesday
 
Danville notched three runs in the fifth inning. Ashlynn McTagertt and Taylor Stal powered the big inning with RBIs.
 
Sydney Owens was the winning pitcher for Spoon River College. Owens surrendered three runs on seven hits over four and a third innings, striking out four and walking one.  Mikayla Ellison threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
 
Hannah Forrest took the loss for the Lady Jaguars.  Forrest lasted four innings, allowing three hits and seven runs while striking out three.
 
The Lady Jaguars racked up ten hits on the day.  Stal and Hailee Gifford all had multiple hits for Danville.  Stalwent 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lady Jaguars in hits.
 
Mackenzie Stiewe led Spoon River College with two hits in four at bats.
 
Game Two 
 
The Lady Jaguars nabbed the lead late in the game in a 9-6 victory over Spoon River College on Tuesday. The game was tied at two with Danville batting in the top of the fifth when Payten Redman homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
 
Danville collected 16 hits and Spoon River College had eight in the high-scoring affair.
 
In the top of the fourth inning, the Lady Jaguars tied things up at two when Hailey Hunter hit a solo homer.
 
After Danville scored three runs in the top of the sixth, Spoon River College answered with three of their own.  The Lady Jaguars scored when Redman singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Maclynne Steele singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, and Mikayla Campbell singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Spoon River College then answered when Allison Mortland doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run and Noelle Hobbs tripled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.
 
Kayla West was credited with the victory for Danville. The fireballer allowed eight hits and six runs, two earned runs over seven innings, striking out five.
 
Lauren Smith took the loss for Spoon River College. The pitcher allowed 15 hits and nine runs over six innings, striking out nine.
 
The Lady Jaguars socked two home runs on the day. Redman went deep in the fifth inning. Hunter had a four bagger in the fourth inning.
 
Danville collected 16 hits on the day.  Kylie Neuman, Redman, Hailee Gifford, and Natalie Shuey all managed multiple hits for the Lady Jaguars.  Redman and Neuman each managed three hits to lead the Lady Jaguars.
