Softball Dominates in 2020 Spring Trip

Jaguars Start Season 9-0 Heading into Conference

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Lady Jaguar Softball Team dominated their competition throughout the week in the start of their young 2020 season.  Claiming wins over USC Sumter, Frederick Community College, Grand Rapids Community College, Schoolcraft Community College, Rowan College at Burlington County, and William Peace University JV.

Coach Cervantes, "Coming down here we knew we had a tough schedule and our games times were going to allow short recovery periods. It was going to be a battle each and every game. This trip was a true test of our depth and team comradery to grind out these games against tough competition"

The Lady Jaguars did just that, claiming a 9-0 record.

Starting out with strong wins in their first three games, the Jaguars were tested with Grand Rapids in their first outing coming victorious by 6-5, the Raiders were looking forward to their rematch with DACC.  The Lady Jaguars were slated to play three games back-to-back-to-back with their final game being against Grand Rapids.  Claiming strong wins over Schoolcraft 10-2 and Rowan College 11-6, the Jaguars were looking forward to their final and 3rd game of the night against the Raiders.

The dominance continued and the Jaguars began to show their true strength against the Raiders.  Scoring 9 runs in the first inning, and tacking on 9 more throughout the course of 4 more innings, the Jaguars beat the Raiders by a final score of 18-5.

Coach Cervantes, "I am very excited for the girls, they are a solid group who strive to work for their teammates.  After our first outing with Grand Rapids we were trailing 5-1 in the 4th inning and we came back to win 6-5 in a thrilling game.  With this game being our last game of the day and 3rd of the day I knew our girls were tired, but this groups mentality tough as nails. They came out with a plan and executed it flawlessly and the final score demonstrates their abilities to compete with the best."

On the Jaguars final day of play, they opened up with Schoolcraft and managed to come away with a 10-2 (5 innings) win, mimicking their first outing with strong pitching performances from Kerrigan Shafer and Hailey Hunter.  After, the Jaguars went on to beat William Peace University JV 10-2 in (5 innings) with dominating pitching performance from Maclynne Steele who went the distance and picked up her first collegiate pitching win.

"I am extremely happy with the way our squad came out this trip, the adversity they battled through and grit they displayed is credit to how hard this group has worked in the preseason and fall. Every player contributed in every game and that is what speaks volumes of this group, it was never one person doing the entire job, everyone did their parts. Excited to see where this year leads them and watch them grow through this process. " - Coach Cervantes

The Jaguars will look forward to their return home and will shift their focus towards Kankakee Community College when they take on the Cavaliers in Kankakee on March 19th.
