Jaguars Split in Opening Conference Series

SPRINGFIELD, ILAfter a 4-4 start to the season in Myrtle Beach, Coach Bunton and the Jaguars look to improve on a 25-27 season in 2018.  The Jaguars boast a new fresh pitching rotation, after graduating three key starters past spring.  The season looks optimistic with fresh talent and some key returners for the Jaguars.  Sophomores Noah Nelson, Hunter Phelps, Alec Craig, Garrett Siebert, Jake Harris, Jake Hensgen, Stohne Stetler, Austin Gustin, Brody Ulrey and DeVante Hicks will produce to be the heart and soul of the Jaguars Baseball Club.  

The Jaguars opened MWAC and Region 24 play against Lincoln Land Community College, earning a split within the four contests, bringing their overall record to 6-6 and 2-2 in MWAC play.  


Game 1

The Jaguars effort to come back from down four runs in the third inning came up just short, as they fell 10-9 to Lincoln Land Community College on Saturday. DACC tallied five runs in the failed comeback. Garrett SiebertDeVante Hicks, and Dawson Johns each picked up RBIs.  The Jaguars was right in it until Lincoln Land Community College singled in the eighth inning.  Lincoln Land Community College took an early lead in the second inning when Talon File tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.  Tj Painter got the win for Lincoln Land Community College. He allowed four hits and three runs over three innings, striking out two and walking one.  Riley Hershberger took the loss for DACC. He surrendered one run on one hit over one inning, striking out one and walking one.  Justin Wilson started the game for Danville. He allowed five hits and six runs over one inning Adam Deal started the game for Lincoln Land Community College. He lasted six innings, allowing four hits and six runs while striking out five.  Andy Bunton led the Jaguars with two hits in four at bats.

Game 2

The Jaguars got on the board in the first inning.Hunter Phelps drove in one when he singled.  Danville tallied five runs in the second inning and the  big bats were led by DeVante HicksGarrett SiebertNoah NelsonStohne Stetler, and Mitchell Fowler, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.  Jason Bollman earned the victory on the pitcher's mound for DACC. He surrendered one run on one hit over six and two-thirds innings, striking out 11. Dylan Henning threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.  Austin Troemper took the loss for Lincoln Land Community College. He went three innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out five.  The Jaguars totaled eight hits. Siebert and Stetler each had multiple hits for the Jaguars. Siebert went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Danville in hits. The Jaguars was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Stetler had the most chances in the field with 11.


Game 3

The Jaguars fell behind early and couldn't come back in an 11-2 loss to Lincoln Land Community College on Sunday. Lincoln Land Community College scored on a double by Bryce Torricelli in the first inning, a single by Jonathan Walder in the second inning, and a home run by Talon File in the second inning.  The Jaguars struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Lincoln Land Community College, giving up 11 runs.  Lincoln Land Community College fired up the offense in the first inning, when Torricelli doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.  Lincoln Land Community College scored five runs in the sixth inning. The big inning for Lincoln Land Community College came thanks to a sacrifice fly by Walder, a home run by File, and a double by Torricelli.  Spencer Walker was the winning pitcher for Lincoln Land Community College. He lasted six innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out seven. Andy Davis threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.  Austin Gustin took the loss for DACC. He allowed five hits and six runs over three innings, striking out two.  Jake Harris went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Jaguars in hits.  Lincoln Land Community College collected 11 hits. Andy Lopez, Cole Greer, File, and Torricelli all managed multiple hits for Lincoln Land Community College. Lincoln Land Community College was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Lopez had the most chances in the field with eight.

Game 4

Jake Harris gave Lincoln Land Community College fits, as he bagged four hits in the Jaguars 6-4 victory on Sunday. Harris singled in the first, singled in the second, singled in the fourth, and doubled in the sixth.  Danville earned the victory despite allowing Lincoln Land Community College to score four runs in the fourth inning. Josh Graves, Jesus Fernandez, and Collin Elvers all drove in runs in the frame.  DACC got things started in the first inning. Garrett Siebert drove in two when he doubled.  The Jaguars pulled away for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Cade Sestak induced Siebert to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.  Mitchell Fowler earned the win for Danville. He went three and two-thirds innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out three.  Lee Hardiek took the loss for Lincoln Land Community College. He went three and a third innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, striking out one and walking zero.  Riley Hershberger started the game for the Jaguars. He lasted three and a third innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out six and walking one  DACC tallied 11 hits. Harris, Dylan Henning, and Dawson Johns all had multiple hits for the Jaguars. Harris led  with four hits in four at bats.  Andy Lopez went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Lincoln Land Community College in hits.\
