Lady Jaguars Start Strong in Season Opener in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC -  The Lady Jaguar Softball team were one win away from making back to back appearances at the National Tournament.  Coming off a 2-1 loss to a tough ICC program, the Lady Jaguars were itching to get back into the action.  Last years squad was able to build an impressive 35-13 record, streaming back to back thirty win seasons for Coach Cervantes and company.  The Lady Jaguars began their season with a tough schedule down in Myrtle Beach, SC playing six different teams who compiled over 30 wins in their previous seasons.  

Game 1 
Danville Area Community College 10 - Bryant & Stratton 0 (5 Innings)
Two Pitchers Work Together As Danville Area Community College Jaguars Varsity Shuts Out Bryant & Stratton College (WI)


The Lady Jaguars defeated Bryant & Stratton College (WI) 10-0 on Sunday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. 
Hannah Ogg induced a fly out from Megan Strasser to finish off the game.  In the first inning, the Lady Jaguars got their offense started when Kami Latimore singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.  A single by Ashley Weimann in the first inning was a positive for Bryant & Stratton College (WI).  Kelsey Clinkenbeard led the Lady Jaguars to victory in the circle. She allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out three and walking one.  Ogg threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.  Mercedes Griesbach took the loss for Bryant & Stratton College (WI) . She went three innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits.  The Lady Jaguars collected 11 hits on the day. Tonya Faulkner and Brianna Tatar all managed multiple hits for the Lady Jaguars. Faulkner went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead The Lady Jaguars in hits.  DACC didn't commit a single error in the field. Faulkner had four chances in the field, the most on the team.

Game 2 
Danville Area Community College 4 - Olney Central College 12 


The Lady Jaguars watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 12-4 loss to Olney Central Community College on Sunday. Olney Central Community College scored on a single by Erin Stanley and a single by Lindsey Beasley in the first inning.  The Lady Jaguars struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Olney Central Community College , giving up 12 runs.
Erika Turpin was credited with the victory for Olney Central Community College . She surrendered four runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out two.  Amanda Hartman took the loss for the Lady Jaguars.  She allowed seven hits and four runs over three innings, striking out three.  Hannah Miener, Danielle Brewer, Hailee Gifford, Tonya Faulkner, and Taylor Gunn each managed one hit to lead the Lady Jaguars.

Game 3 
Danville Area Community College 1 - Hagerstown Community College 0 
Hannah Ogg Throws Shutout As Danville Area Community College Jaguars Varsity Defeats Hagerstown Community College


Hannah Ogg threw a shutout to lead the Lady Jaguars past Hagerstown Community College 1-0 on Monday.  The pitching was strong on both sides. Ogg struck out seven, while Kaitlin Wolfe sat down three.  A single by Wolfe in the third inning was a positive for Hagerstown Community College.  Ogg was the winning pitcher for the Lady Jaguars. She went seven innings, allowing zero runs on four hits and striking out seven.  Hannah Miener went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead The Lady Jaguars in hits. DACC didn't commit a single error in the field. Lauren Proehl had seven chances in the field, the most on the team.  Wolfe led Hagerstown Community College with two hits in two at bats.

Game 4 
Danville Area Community College 8 - Frederick Community College 0 (6 Innings) 
Two Lady Jaguars Combine To Shutout Frederick Community College 


The Lady Jaguars defeated Frederick Community College 8-0 on Monday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Amanda Hartman induced a groundout from Kaitlyn Naill to finish off the game.
In the first inning, The Lady Jaguars got their offense started. Taylor Gunn singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Kelsey Clinkenbeard led the Lady Jaguars to victory in the pitcher's circle. She allowed one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out six. Hartman threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.  Victoria Holston took the loss for Frederick Community College . She went four innings, allowing seven runs on ten hits. The Lady Jaguars hit two home runs on the day. Kelly Smith had a dinger in the first inning and Hannah Miener had a homer in the sixth inning.  The Lady Jaguars collected 12 hits on the day. Miener, Smith, and Hailee Gifford each had multiple hits for the Jaguars.  Miener led the Lady Jaguars with three hits in four at bats.  The Lady Jaguars didn't commit a single error in the field.  

Game 5 
Danville Area Community College 8 - Schoolcraft College 0 (Five Innings) 
With Hannah Ogg On The Mound, Danville Area Community College Jaguars Varsity Shuts Out Schoolcraft Community College


Hannah Ogg threw a shutout to lead the Lady Jaguars past Schoolcraft Community College 8-0 on Wednesday.  The Lady Jaguars fired up the offense in the first inning, when Taylor Gunn grounded out, scoring one run.  The Lady Jaguars put up three runs in the fourth inning. Dani Brewer, Hannah Miener and Taylor Gunn all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.  A single by Shelby Seppala in the second inning was a positive for Schoolcraft Community College.  Ogg was the winning pitcher for the Lady Jaguars. She surrendered zero runs on two hits over five innings, striking out six.  The Lady Jaguars smacked two home runs on the day. Kelly Smith had a four bagger in the third inning and Hailee Gifford had a homer in the third inning.
The Lady Jaguars totaled nine hits in the game. Gifford and Brianna Tatar each collected multiple hits for DACC.  Tatar and Gifford each collected two hits to lead the Lady Jaguars.  DACC didn't commit a single error in the field. 

Game 6 
Danville Area Community College 3 - CCBC Cantonsville 8 


The Lady Jaguars fell behind early and couldn't come back in an 8-3 loss to CCBC-Cantonsville Community College on Wednesday. CCBC-Cantonsville Community College took the lead on a home run in the first inning.  Akirra Pullen earned the victory in the pitcher's circle for CCBC-Cantonsville Community College . She allowed eight hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out one.  Kelsey Clinkenbeard took the loss for The Lady Jaguars. She lasted five and a third innings, allowing seven hits and eight runs while striking out nine.  Kelly Smith went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lady Jaguars in hits. The game was close until a an error costed the jaguars 3 unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning.  The Lady Jaguars would end up losing the contest, but have another shot at Cantonsville the next day.  

Game 7 
Danville Area Community College 11 - Southeasten Whiteville (SC) 0 (6 Innings) 

Hartman Fans 7, as DACC gets back into Win Column 

Amanda Hartman didn't allow a single run as The Lady Jaguars  defeated Southeastern-Whiteville Community College 11-0 on Wednesday. Hartman allowed just five hits.
The Lady Jaguars opened up scoring in the first inning. Lauren Proehl doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.  DACC put up four runs in the sixth inning. Kelly Smith, Tonya Faulkner and Danille Brewer each had RBIs in the big inning.  Hartman earned the win for the Lady Jaguars . She went six innings, allowing zero runs on five hits and striking out seven.  Alexis Suggs took the loss for Southeastern-Whiteville Community College . She went two and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and walking zero.  The Lady Jaguars collected 15 hits. Smith, Faulkner, Hannah Miener, Brianna Tatar, and Proehl each managed multiple hits for Danville. Smith went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead DACC in hits.

Game 8 
Danville Area Community College 9 - CCBC Cantonsville 0 (6 Innings) 
Hannah Ogg goes 6 Innings, Fans 9 allowing 1 Hit 


Hannah Ogg had all the right stuff on Thursday for Danville, allowing zero runs and besting CCBC-Cantonsville Community College by a score of 9-0.  The Lady Jaguars secured the victory thanks to six runs in the fifth inning. Kelly Smith, Taylor Gunn, and Tonya Faulkner powered the big inning with RBIs.  One bright spot for CCBC-Cantonsville Community College was a single by Madeline English in the fourth inning.  Ogg pitched Danville to victory. She allowed one hit and zero runs over six innings, striking out nine.  Marissa Heuer took the loss for CCBC-Cantonsville Community College . She surrendered seven runs on seven hits over five innings, striking out four and walking one.  The Lady Jaguars launched one home run on the day. Faulkner had a four bagger in the fifth inning.  DACC tallied nine hits in the game. Smith and Faulkner all managed multiple hits for the Lady Jaguars. Faulkner and Smith all had two hits to lead DACC. 

Game 9 
Danville Area Community College 5 - Hagerstown 4 (8 Innings) 
Faulkners Walk-Off lifts DACC Over Hagerstown after 4-0 Deficit in bottom 7th with 2 Outs 


The Lady Jaguars took their game in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off single at the end of the game to topple Hagerstown Community College. The game was tied at four with DACC batting in the bottom of the eighth when Tonya Faulkner singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.  In the bottom of the seventh inning, Danville Area Community College Jaguars Varsity tied things up at four when Hailee Gifford tripled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs.  The Lady Jaguars notched four runs in the seventh inning. Faulkner and Gifford each had RBIs in the big inning.  Amanda Hartman got the win for the Lady Jaguars. She surrendered four runs on eight hits over seven innings, striking out three. Hannah Ogg threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Ogg recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Danville.  The Lady Jaguars racked up nine hits on the day. Faulkner and Kami Latimore all managed multiple hits for Danville. Faulkner went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lady Jaguars in hits. 

Coach Cervantes is extremely pleased with his squad, "This team is incredibly special, to see what they accomplished in such a short amount of time is amazing.  Coming back to win ball games with limited outs in their corners shows the true grit and make up of this club.  I am excited to be apart of their journey." 

The Lady Jaguars finished the trip 7-2 on the young season and are back in action in Danville on Tuesday, March 12th.  The Lady Jaguars will take on St. Louis Community College in a DH beginning at 2pm and 4pm.
