Softball Falls Out of Districts Tournament

CHAMPAIGN, IL - It was a tough weekend for the Jaguars as the team fell out of the Districts Tournament after losing their last two games

(May 8th) Game 1 vs St. Louis Community College
Danville faced the Archers of St. Louis (29-20) first on Friday where they jumped out to an early lead after scoring 1 run in the first, then added 7 more in the second. They held St. Louis to their one and only run in the bottom of the second, and the Jaguars run ruled them, scoring 1 each in the third and fourth, then 5 more in the fifth to end it with a 15-1 victory.

Mackenzie Fasig's 7 strikeouts helped lead Danville to the win. Tristan Ring went 2-4 at the plate with a homerun, and Ka'Leah Bellick had 2 RBIs.

(May 8th) Game 2 vs Illinois Central College
With their first win, the Jaguars had to play back-to-back games on Friday, with their second one against Illinois Central College (32-16). Danville fell behind quickly in the second inning after ICC scored 7 runs in the top half, and the Jaguars only scored 1 in the bottom half. Danville added on 2 more in the bottom of the third, but went scoreless the remainder of the game. The Cougars added one more in the top of the sixth, and closed it out in the bottom of the seventh to get the 8-3 win over Danville.

Paige Froess had 3 strikeouts, and Kendall Rannebarger and Ella Myers each had an RBI.

(May 9th) Game 3 vs Parkland College
With the results of Friday's games, that put Danville in the loser's game Saturday morning against Parkland (38-18). The Cobras started off with 5 runs in the bottom of the first, then went up 6-0 in the fourth. Danville was only able to bring in 3 runs in the top of the seventh before Parkland closed out the game with a 6-3 win, knocking Danville out of the tournament.

Mackenzie Fasig had 4 strikeouts, and Tristan Ring had 2 RBIs.

The Jaguars sit with a 49-14 overall record, and were last ranked #21 in the week 11 NJCAA poll. They will await the NJCAA Tournament Selection Show to see if they receive one of the four at large bids.
