Baseball Goes 1-1 Against Spoon River on Sunday

WESTVILLE, IL - Jaguar baseball got their first win on the year against Spoon River College in game one of two on the day on Sunday, giving Danville some momentum moving forward in the season.

Danville 16, Spoon River 6
The bats came alive for the Jaguars (1-10) in game one on Sunday as the team went for a combined 13 hits and only striking out 5 times. The Snappers (4-6) applied the pressure first when they brought a run across in the top of the first, but Danville responded by scoring two of their own runs in the bottom half. Another run was scored by Danville in the second, making it 3-1, till Spoon River tied it back up at 3 runs in the third. The Jaguars were dominant in the fourth, not allowing any runs to be scored by the Snappers, and then scoring 7 total runs in the bottom half, giving them the 10-3 lead. Spoon River brought 3 more across in the fifth, but it was all Danville the remainder of the game, scoring 1 run in the sixth and 5 in the seventh, ending the game early with the 16-6 victory.

Zach Poore was 2-4 at the plate with a homerun and 5 RBIs, while Brody Julian and Isaac Murray both had 3 RBIs. Drew Ogden got the win on the mound with 2 strikeouts, while Jackson Roberts got 3.

Spoon River 11, Danville 9
The Snappers were quick to respond in game two, coming out with a 6-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second before Danville got on the board with 2 runs. The Jaguars got the lead after scoring 5 runs in the third, making it 7-6, and then 8-6 after adding another run in the fifth. Spoon River tied it up at 8 a piece though when they scored 2 in the seventh, and then got the lead in the eighth when they scored 3 runs, making it 11-8. The Jaguars were only able to bring 1 run across in the bottom of the eighth, coming up short, losing game two 11-9.

Ethan Durbin was 3-5 at the plate with 2 RBIs. Cade Schaumburg had 3 strikeouts, while Zach Poore and Landon Gudnason each had 2 strikeouts. 

Up next... 
The Jaguars will be back in action Monday when they travel to Canton, Illinois to face Spoon River again in another doubleheader starting at 12 pm.
