Men's Basketball Upsets #6 South Suburban on the Road

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL - The Jaguars got a big win on Saturday over sixth ranked South Suburban College, taking the 76-70 victory.

Danville (2-1) pulled away from the Bulldogs (0-1) late in the first half after a made 3-pointer from Blake Reed put the Jaguars up 19-8. South Suburban cut the lead to 7 with just over three minutes to go in the first half, but again, Danville extended the lead and was up 36-23 at the half. AP Mitchell made the score 41-25 early in the second half after a 3-pointer, but a back-to-back made 3-pointers from the Bulldogs brought them within three at 46-43. They then tied it up at 50 each, and kept it a close game the rest of the way. With just 37 seconds left, the Bulldogs hit a 3-pointer to make the score 72-70 Danville. With the Jaguars on offense, Deshawn Clark found Mitchell in the lane where he was double teamed, opening up Jeremiah Poniewaz under the basket for an easy layup to make it 74-70. Mitchell then intercepted the long pass down the floor from the Bulldogs, who then dished it to Jordan Dickson who was sent to the line on a foul where he knocked down both free throws to extend the lead 76-70. With 5 seconds left, Danville held the Bulldogs to get the victory.

Jordan Dickson led the way with 14 points, while Jeremiah Poniewaz added 13 points and AP Mitchell had 11. Jeremy Wilson scored 8 points and had 11 steals.

Danville will play again at home on Tuesday, November 11th when they host Illinois Wesleyan University's JV team with tipoff at 7 pm.
