Baseball Splits With Lewis & Clark Last Weekend

GODFREY, IL - It was a split trip for Danville baseball this past weekend as they traveled to Godfrey to face the Lewis & Clark Trailblazers (25-26).

DACC (20-25) was unable to hold off the Trailblazers in game one of the doubleheader on Friday. Lewis & Clark got on the board first after scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the second. Danville scored 2 runs in the third, but the Trailblazers made it 4-2 in the bottom half of the inning. The Jaguars took a 6-5 lead after the seventh inning, but Lewis & Clark tied it at 6 in the bottom of the ninth, sending them into extras. They were able to secure the win with a walk off hit, getting the 7-6 victory. Kody Morton had 2 RBIs and 3 hits for Danville, while Kenseth Johns had 3 strikeouts.

The bats got going for DACC in game two, as they scored in every inning but two. They scored 1 run in the first, 2 in the second and third, 4 in the fourth, and 2 in the fifth. They held the Trailblazers to just 2 runs total, winning game two 11-2. Adam Evans contributed with 5 RBIs and 3 hits, including 2 home runs and a sac fly. Sam Monk got the win on the mound with 3 strikeouts.

The team returned to Lewis & Clark on Saturday for another doubleheader. A single run in both the first and the fifth inning was enough to hold over the Trailblazers to get the 2-0 win. Adam Evans and Mason Rice each had an RBI, while Nick Krueger got the shutout win with 5 strikeouts.

Game two on Saturday was another back and forth battle as both groups were active offensively. Danville had the 5-2 lead going into the sixth inning, but the Trailblazers grabbed 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth, making it 5-4. The Jaguars scored 2 more in the seventh, but a big eighth inning for Lewis & Clark with 5 runs put them up by 2, 9-7. The Jaguars only grabbed 1 run in the top of the ninth, but that was all they could do as they lost game two 9-8.

Danville is now 20-25 overall with a 15-13 conference record. Next up for the team is a trip to Springfield to face Lincoln Land in a doubleheader on Friday at 3 and 5, and the Loggers will come to Danville on Saturday for another doubleheader at 12 and 2.
