Softball Finishes 9th in the National Tournament

Jaguars lose in elimination game

SPARTANBURG, SC - It was a long day yesterday for the Jaguar softball team as they went through eleven whole innings in their first elimination game, and then didn't start their second elimination game till 8:30 (cst) in the evening. That first win earlier in the day against #16 Independence Community College was a battle for the #9 Jaguars, but they were able to come out victorious. They then awaited their next opponent for the evening game.

#10 Des Moines Area Community College was next up to face Danville, as the Bears won their first round game against #7 Rock Valley, and then lost their second game to Louisburg, which put them up against the Jaguars in an elimination game. Despite getting Ashlynn McTagertt on base in the top of the first, Danville wasn't able to produce a lot of offense throughout the game. McTagertt, Kyleigh Weller, and Beth Pavy all had 1 hit each. Raven Morrison and Weller each had a strikeout, but it wasn't enough as DMACC scored their only 2 runs in the bottom of the third. That was enough to hold on through seven innings, ending the 2023 Jaguar softball season.

The Lady Jaguars finished the season 9th in the nation with a 43-24 overall record, a 17-7 conference record, and a District B Championship title. Throughout the whole division, they were 1st in triples, 6th in total hits, 8th in total bases, and 9th in extra base hits. This was also the first time in program history that the softball team has went back-to-back years to the National Tournament.
