Baseball Shows Grit in Region 24 Tournament

BLOOMINGTON, ILLINOIS – The Jaguar Baseball Team competed in the Region 24 Tournament in hopes of qualifying to the National Tournament with a Championship victory.  However, Danville fell short in the tournament in a heart breaking loss to #1 Seed Lincoln Land in the semifinals to put them in the loser's bracket.  They would have had to win 5 consecutive games in order to qualify for the National Championships.

The score was tied 2-2 in the bottom of the 9th inning with Jaguars playing defense against the Loggers when Luke Olson over threw the first basemen to allow the Logger runner to advance all the way to 3rd base with only one out.  DACC then walked the next hitter to enable a double play opportunity on the next hitter.

The Jaguars got what they needed, when they tried to turn the double play ball between Freshman Noah Laurent and Sophomore Andy Bunton when the umpire called the runner safe at second, while the hitter was out at first.  The play was extremely controversial and in many opinions, including the video from the live stream, both runners were out.  However, the play ended the game while the runner at 3rd base was allowed to score.

The loss sent the Jaguars to the loser bracket to face off against Vincennes University later that day.  DACC ended up routing Vincennes 11-1 to set up a rivalry matchup with Parkland the next day.

DACC ended up dropping their final game of the year to Parkland by a final score of 11-3 to finish out the season.

Coach Hicks on the Year, "Through it all, we had some success but I do think we left a lot in the tank.  We played well at times in the year and our guys battled through adversity, and I do think we are heading in the right direction.  We played Lincoln Land extremely tough and should have won that game, but it did not go our way. Our guys played through every situation they were thrown at this year and I could not be more proud of them, we need to take this time in the off season to reset and get our goals set for next fall."
