McCoy Qualifies for NJCAA Golf Championships

DANVILLE, ILLINOIS – In just the very first championship season for Coach Debbie Toler, the Women's Golf program garnered their first NJCAA National Qualifier. Mackenzie McCoy defeated the odds on Monday, when she shot back to back rounds of 89 to place 2^nd overall at the Region 24 Championships.

The second place finish allowed McCoy to qualify for the NJCAA National Golf Championships being held on May 10th-13^th in Ormond Beach, Florida. McCoy will test her skills among the nation's best on Plantation Bay Golf and Country Club.

Coach Toler, "I am absolutely thrilled for Mackenzie. She drove the ball extremely well on both days which kept her in the fairway, but her and I both agree her chipping and putting need to get better heading into the big dance."

Championship settings are going to be a bit different for McCoy when they get down there. The event will host four consecutive days of 18 holes of golf, something that has not been done by McCoy and the women's golf team. However, Coach Toler believes Mackenzie will adjust and be just fine.

Coach Toler, "It's a new setting, we don't know the course just yet, but we are able to get a practice round on Sunday before play starts, and I do believe Mackenzie will do just fine. She is in great shape and is built for these types of events."

McCoy has been a force to reckon with all year, she has placed in the top 5 individually in every event all year and has made tremendous strides in her game.

McCoy on qualifying, "I am excited, definitely a little nervous but thrilled to get down there and experience the atmosphere. I definitely did not think I played my best golf at Region, but I know what I need to work on and hopefully we can iron on these bumps as we head into Nationals."

Coach Toler and McCoy will head to Florida in a couple weeks as they try to bring home a National Championship back to Danville.
