McCoy Competes at NJCAA Golf Championships

Finishes within Top 40 through 3 Rounds

ORLANDO, FLORIDA Mackenzie McCoy traveled to Orlando, Florida after she shot a qualifying score in the Region 24 Championships.  McCoy is the first women's golfer in program history to qualify for the event, and has opened up the standards for the DACC Women's Golf Program.

McCoy opened the event with a score of 91 and only improved as the event went on.   McCoy shot 85, 83 in the following rounds to keep her up to pace while she was sitting near the top 40 individual golfers.  McCoy was cut short of her fourth and final round when the NJCAA Tournament Director decided to cut the fourth round and only keep certain golfers to play the remaining 18 holes.

It was not what McCoy or Coach Toler hoped to happen, as they traveled all the way to Orlando, Florida; however, McCoy and Toler both state this was an experience they are going to cherish together forever.

McCoy on the event, "Overall, I really enjoyed it and it was a ton of fun.  I think the 2nd and 3rd day I really started to play my game.  I had 5 one putts the second day and that helped me tremendously moving through.  I was disappointed that I wasn't able to play the fourth round, but I was happy to get the experience"

McCoy was sitting in the top 40 on the leader board before the NJCAA stepped in to decide the final cuts due to weather. McCoy needed to be in the top 24 in order to be able to compete on the final day.

According to Coach Toler, "they only kept a couple individual golfers which did not help Mackenzie's case, but it stung a little more knowing there were other teams who had their golfers shooting in the final round who were not as competitive as Mackenzie was throughout the tournament, but happened to be able to shoot because their team qualified for the final round."

McCoy will get right back to work as she preps for her senior institution in the fall.  McCoy, "I have a couple tournaments lined up for this summer to help get me ready for the fall."
McCoy will transfer to Lindenwood University in the Fall of 2021 and compete on the Women's Golf Team.

Coach Toler on the event,  "I am disappointed that Mackenzie did not get a chance to play her final round, even though there were golfers who Mackenzie was out playing having the chance to compete in the final day, but Mackenzie played extremely well and adjusted to the course, heat and elements very well.  I am super proud of her and know this experience is going to propel her when she heads to Lindenwood University in the fall."

The Women's Golf Team will look to garner the same results heading into next year.  This being the first full season for Coach Toler and seeing her qualify the programs first ever golfer to the NJCAA National Championships is quite fulfilling for the DACC Women's Golf Program!

Congrats to Mackenzie McCoy on a brilliant year!
