Baseball Loses Two Close Games, Look to Bounce Back Tomorrow

Hershberger Goes 7 innings, Strikes out 6

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Jaguars were looking to stay hot after a 2-0 day on Sunday, but dropped two games on Monday.  The Jaguars lost game one two Suffolk Community College 4-1 and then to Monroe Community College 7-5.  

Game One 

DACC - 1 
Suffolk CC - 4 


Danville fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 4-1 loss to Suffolk Community College on Monday. SCC scored on a double in the first inning and a groundout in the second inning.   Pulsipner was credited with the victory for Suffolk Community College. He went seven innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out six and walking zero.  Riley Hershberger took the loss for DACC. He surrendered four runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out six and walking zero.  Jonathan Latham went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Jaguars in hits. DACC didn't commit a single error in the field. Chase Vinson had nine chances in the field, the most on the team.

Game Two 

DACC - 5 
Monroe CC - 7 


DACC stayed in it until the end, but Monroe pulled away late in a 7-5 victory on Monday. The game was tied at five with Monroe batting in the bottom of the sixth when Monroe homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.  The Jaguars opened up scoring in the second inning. Evan Allen hit a solo homer. The jaguars knotted the game up at five in the top of the fifth inning, when Keegan Nickoson singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

After DACC scored one run in the top of the third, Monroe answered with one of their own. Danville scored when Allen singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. Monroe then answered with a single on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.  Smith pitched Monroe to victory. He surrendered five runs on 11 hits over seven innings, striking out three.  Jake Stipp took the loss for the Jaguars. He went four innings, allowing five runs on ten hits, striking out four and walking one.

The Jaguars smacked one home run on the day. Allen had a homer in the second inning.  The Jaguars tallied 11 hits on the day. Allen and Nickoson each collected multiple hits for the Jaguars.
