Lady Jaguars Stay Hot Against Rival Parkland

Hartman and Ogg produce Gem Outings vs. Cobras

CHAMPAIGN, IL - The Lady Jaguars were looking to have continued success after their recent sweep over South Suburban going into MWAC double header with league leading and rival Parkland. Heading into the contest, the Lady Jaguars hold a 25-14 record while Parkland was on an 8 game win streak with a 31-19 record.  Going into the series, the last time DACC met Parkland was at home back in early April in which both teams earned a victory.  Parkland was the victors in game one by a 9-2 score, while the Lady Jaguars picked up their win in the second game 5-1.  However, this was not the case in the recent contest.

Game One - Danville Area Community College 2 // Parkland 1

Amanda Hartman shined in the circle in game one going 7 innings, allowing one run on six hits.  Hartman struck out four in the contest while walking zero.  The game was tied 0-0 going into the bottom of the 6th inning, when Parkland was able to get a solid hit from Skundberg as she sent one flying over the center field fence for a solo shot.  DACC immediately responded in the top half of the 7th inning when Brianna Tatar singled on a hard ground ball to center to start the Jaguar rally. Pinch running for Tatar was Jillian Selander who was able to advance to second on a pass ball. Then, with Taylor Gunn up to the plate, she was able to single her way on base to create a little more havoc for the Cobra defense.  Gunn was able to steal second base giving the Jaguars a strong opportunity to score with the tying and eventual winning runs standing at third and second base.

Enter Kamryn Latimore.........

Latimore singled on a hard ground ball through the 3/4 hole scoring Selander and Gunn giving the Jaguars a 2-1 lead.  The Jaguars went into the bottom of the 7th with the lead and Hartman managed to continue her success picking up three outs and the win in the contest.

Game Two - Danville Area Community College 4 // Parkland 2

In game two of the day, Parkland managed to score first in the bottom of the first inning giving them an early 1-0 advantage.  However, the Jaguars responded in the top of the second to tie the game on a passed ball combined with Taylor Gunn's speed.  Danville then took the lead going into the top of the third inning as Hannah Miener was able to get the Jaguar offense rolling with a single to center field.  She was able to advance to second on a passed ball and eventually made it to third on Hailee Gifford's sacrifice fly.  Kelly Smith came up clutch again as she singled to center bringing home Miener.

The Jaguars were able to bring two more runs in during the fifth inning as Tonya Faulkner started the rally by singling up the middle.  Faulkner advanced to second on a wild pitch then allowing her to get to third base on Hannah Miener's ground ball to second base.  With the heart of the Jaguar order coming up, Hailee Gifford managed to get hit by a pitch, allowing Kelly Smith to come up clutch again with a strong bunt to score Tonya Faulkner.  Later in the inning, Gifford and Smith were able to advance on passed balls in which allowed Taylor Hotaling to come up clutch to induce a fielders choice allowing Hailee Gifford to score.

Hannah Ogg proved to be strong again in the circle as she went seven innings, allowing 2 runs on six hits.  Ogg struck out 6 in the contest to bolster another win in her impressive career.

Tha Jaguars will take on Lewis and Clark in their final MWAC conference double header on Monday, May 6th before heading into Region 24 play on May 9th, 10th and 11th.
