Cross Country Runs in Second Race of the Season

SPRINGFIELD, IL - The Jaguar cross country team ran in their second meet last Friday that was the Prairie Star Invite.

Thomas Wells led the Danville team, finishing 77th individually with a time of 25:11.80. Jakob Rupp placed 101st with a time of 28:05.82. Malachi Lathrop finished 105th with a time of 29:24.38. Then Cooper Nurrenbern finished 107th with a time of 30:08.38.

Head Coach Dalton Baker made a couple of comments regarding the team's race.

"Overall the guys did really well! Coming into this meet the guys came in with tired legs as we are training hard in order to be ready to race our fastest race at the end of October at regionals. They went out there and competed as the main focus of these first couple of meets is to get them adjusted to training and teaching them how to race," Baker said.

"The course was pretty flat, but the boys handled the pressure of going up against some of Illinois best college programs perfectly. Thomas was again our lead guy and right from the gun he got out and ran his race. Cooper, Jakob, and Malachi packed really well and is something that we will need in order to compete at regionals. These next two weeks will be able to focus on more adjustments and strength as we get ready for John McNichols Invite in Terre Haute where some of the nations best runners will compete."

Up next...
The team will race again on Saturday, September 20th when they travel to Terre Haute, Indiana for the John McNichols race.
