Baseball Upsets Nationally Ranked #7 Heartland in MWAC Series

DANVILLE, IL - After a .500 start in conference, the DACC Baseball program went into nationally ranked  #7 Heartland with high hopes to redeem themselves after the previous MWAC opener.  Well, the Jaguars did just that, upsetting #7 Heartland three out of four contests. Improving their overall record to 9-7 and MWAC record to 5-3.  There were multiple positives in the series win, coming from the back end of the rotation, the bullpen and timely hitting.  In one game, the Jaguars relied heavily on DeVante Hicks after he arrived late to the game due to a Differential Equations Exam.  Hicks, immediately being subbed in drew a walk, and in the bottom of the 9th inning, snagged a screamer that looked to have eyes going through the 3/4 hole to kill a potential Hawks rally.  Tha Jaguars look to improve on their series win heading into next weekend as they take on Lewis and Clark Trailblazers. 

Game One Recap: Danville Area Community College 6 - Heartland Community College 4 

The Jaguars took the lead late in the game in a 6-4 victory over Heartland Community College on Saturday. The game was tied at four with DACC batting in the top of the ninth when Noah Nelson doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.  Heartland Community College scored three runs in the fifth inning, but the Jaguars still managed to pull out the victory.  In the top of the eighth inning, Danville tied things up at four. Mitchell Fowler doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.   Austin Gustin pitched DACC to victory. He lasted one inning, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out one and walking zero.Riley Hershberger and John Carnahan entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Hershberger recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Jaguars.  Brody Ulrey started the game for DACC. He lasted six and a third innings, allowing ten hits and four runs while striking out one.  The Jaguars racked up ten hits on the day. Nelson, Fowler,  Hunter Phelps, and Garrett Siebert each collected multiple hits for Danville. Siebert, Phelps, Fowler, and Nelson each managed two hits to lead DACC.

Game Two Recap: Danville Area Community College 8 - Heartland Community College 7 

The Jaguars snatched the lead late in the game in an 8-7 victory over Heartland Community College on Saturday. The game was tied at seven with DACC batting in the top of the fifth when a sacrifice bunt by Andy Bunton scored one run for Danville.  The Jaguars built a six-run lead in the second inning and then held off Heartland Community College's charge. Heartland Community College tallied seven runs in the failed comeback.  DACC got on the board in the first inning when Noah Nelson homered on a 1-1 count, scoring three runs.  After Danville scored three runs in the top of the second, Heartland Community College answered with three of their own. The Jaguars scored when Garrett Siebert singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run and Nelson doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs. Heartland Community College then answered when Garner Spolijaric's sac fly scored one run for Heartland Community College.  Dylan Henning got the win for DACC. He went two and a third innings, allowing two runs on four hits and walking zero. Chase Vinson threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Vinson recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Danville.  Jason Bollman started the game for The Jaguars. He went two and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out two.  Danville tallied one home run on the day. Nelson had a homer in the first inning.  The Jaguars had 13 hits in the game. Nelson, Mitchell Fowler, Hunter Phelps, and Stohne Stetler all had multiple hits for DACC. Nelson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead DACC in hits.

Game Three Recap: Danville Area Community College 1 - Heartland Community College 10 

The Jaguars fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 10-1 loss to Heartland Community College on Sunday. Heartland Community College scored on a single by Marti and an error in the second inning.  Danville struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Heartland Community College, giving up ten runs.  Heartland Community College got things moving in the second inning, when Marti singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.  Heartland Community College scored four runs in the fifth inning. Sullivan and Simington all drove in runs in the frame.  Zapka pitched Heartland Community College to victory. He went six innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out nine. Turelli threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Turelli recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Heartland Community College.  Riley Hershberger took the loss for the Jaguars. He lasted two and a third innings, allowing seven hits and six runs.  Garrett SiebertHunter Phelps, and Mitchell Fowler all had one hit to lead DACC.  Heartland Community College had 12 hits in the game. Barnes, Marti, and Simington all collected multiple hits for Heartland Community College. Barnes went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Heartland Community College in hits.

Game Four Recap: Danville Area Community College 3 - Heartland Community College 2 

DACC took Sunday's game in dramatic fashion, with a 3-2 walk-off victory over Heartland Community College. Danville was down 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning when an error scored two runs for the Jaguars.  The pitching was strong on both sides. Jaguar pitchers struck out six, while Heartland Community College pitchers sat down seven.  In the bottom of the seventh inning, Danville tied things up at one. DACC scored one run when Mitchell Fowler singled.  Chase Vinson earned the victory on the hill for Danville. He surrendered two runs on three hits over four innings, striking out four and walking one.  Burkhart took the loss for Heartland Community College. He lasted one and one-third innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out two and walking one.???????  Slagel started the game for Heartland Community College. He went seven innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out five and walking one Justin Wilson started the game for DACC. He went five innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits and striking out two.  Fowler led the Jaguars with two hits in two at bats.
