Men's Basketball Advances to Region 24 Semifinal with Win Over Lewis & Clark

DANVILLE, IL - It was a close contested battle Tuesday night as the Jaguars faced Lewis & Clark for the third time this season. It came down to the final seconds, but Danville hung on to extend their season.

The Jaguars (24-3) entered the Region 24 Tournament as the #1 seed, and earned quarterfinal hosting rights. They faced #8 seed Lewis & Clark (10-20) who they just faced at home on February 21st. Danville had a hard time knocking down shots in the first half, and the Trailblazers also struggled offensively. It was a low scoring first half for both teams as the halftime score read 24-18 Danville.

The second half was played a lot closer as Lewis & Clark climbed back to tie the game at 46 with 1:45 to go. The Trailblazers took the 48-46 lead with 1:15 left, and Danville answered with a made 3-pointer from Deshawn Clark with 45 seconds left to make it 49-48. The Jaguars were able to block a layup underneath and get the ball back, and Jeremiah Poniewaz was fouled, sending him to the line to shoot 1-1. He was short on the first free throw, with a Lewis & Clark rebound where they tried for a 3-pointer and missed, got the rebound and tired for a basket underneath, but were stopped again and the clock ran out, giving Danville the 49-48 victory.

Jordan Dickson led all scorers with 15 points, while Deshawn Clark and Jeremy Wilson both had 6.

Danville will now play in the Region 24 semifinal on Friday, March 6th when they face #4 seed Lincoln Land at 3pm in the Mary Miller Gymnasium in Danville. DACC will also be hosting the second semifinal following the conclusion of the first one, and the second one will be played by #2 seed Rend Lake versus #3 seed Parkland at approximately 5pm. The Championship game will be played at 4pm on Saturday, March 7th in the Mary Miller Gym.
