Jaguars Fall in National Semifinal to Cobras

Danville plays for 3rd against Iowa Central

DANVILLE, IL - The Jaguars struggled in the national semifinal Friday night as the conference foe Parkland was on a roll and never looked back. 

Danville (27-5) faced the Cobras (28-7) for the fourth time this season. The first two times they faced off was in the regular season, and Danville took both victories. The third time they met was in the Region 24 Championship where Parkland won to get them the automatic bid to the National Tournament. This fourth time, Parkland was able to jump out to a quick 13-4 lead in the first half under the fourteen minute mark, then the Jaguars cut it back to within five, and then three after a made 3-pointer from DeShawn Clark. But with the Cobra's 60% from the floor and 44.4% from the arc in the first half, Parkland climbed to a 39-24 lead at the half. 

To start the second half, Danville went on a 10-0 run with a combination of 3-pointers and made layups underneath to cut Parkland's lead to just five. Despite their efforts, the Cobras pushed the offensive boards and kept their lead the rest of the way. The Jaguars got within four points with 6:39 to go, but some turnovers helped the Cobras extend their lead late in the second half. Danville didn't score from the 4:14 mark till there was just 58 seconds remaining, but it was too late as Parkland closed out the game with a 77-66 victory to send them to the National Championship on Saturday.

DeShawn Clark led the Jaguars with 15 points, while Jeremiah Poniewaz and Drevin Bratton each had 11 points.
