Men's Basketball Earns Conference Champions Title with Win Over Spoon River

CANTON, IL - For the second time in three years, the Jaguars men's basketball team have earned the regular season MWAC Conference Champions title. With the team's win over the Snappers on Saturday, the team finished the regular season record of 23-3 and enter the Region 24 Tournament as the #1 seed.

Danville (23-3) held on till the final buzzer against Spoon River (8-21) and came out on top with the 58-57 victory. The Snappers were ahead of Danville 32-27 at halftime, but the Jaguars outscored the Snappers 31-25 in the second half. Spoon River had 0.5 seconds remaining on the clock to get a shot off, but Danville's defense cut their chances short and finished with a one point victory on the road to end the regular season.

Jordan Dickson led Danville with 13 points, while Jeremiah Poniewaz scored 11, and Danzell Anantoewe had 11 rebounds.

The Jaguars will be playing in the Region 24 Tournament starting Tuesday, March 3rd when they host Lewis & Clark Community College in the quarterfinal round at 6pm. DACC will also be hosting the semifinal games at 3 and 5pm on Friday, March 6th, as well as the championship game on Saturday, March 7th at 4pm.
