Jaguar Softball Gets First Wins on New Field Against Kankakee

Head Coach Matt Cervantes reaches 300th career win

DANVILLE, IL - The 2026 season has only just begun for Jaguar softball, and it's off to a solid start. After returning from Tennessee and starting with a 1-3 record, Danville bounced back in their home opener on Tuesday against the Kankakee Cavaliers, securing two wins in the doubleheader.

Game 1
Danville was getting things rolling as freshman pitcher Paige Froess allowed 0 runs through her six innings pitched, and earned five strikeouts. The Jaguars produced offensively, with Mia Herbert going 1-3 at the plate with 2 RBI's, Tristan Ring and Ella Myers also each adding an RBI, and Mackenzie Knowles stealing two bases. The team went on to win 6-0 for their first game out on the brand new field at Winter Park.

Game 2
Sophomore Mackenzie Fasig came out strong in game two of the doubleheader, striking out eight Cavaliers in her six innings thrown and only giving up four hits. Marin Gonski went 2-3 at the plate with a 2-run homerun, while Ava Olson also went 2-3 at the plate, and Kaitlyn Drew had 2 RBIs. Danville won the second game 6-3.

With that first win over Kankakee, that officially marked Head Coach Matt Cervantes' 300th career win at DACC.

The Jaguars will play again at home on Wednesday, February 18th when they host College of Lake County in a doubleheader at 2 and 4pm.
