Softball Sweeps the Weekend Against Conference Opponents

DANVILLE, IL - Jaguar softball proved their talent and strength this past weekend, having dominant performances against fellow MWAC opponents on Saturday and Sunday.

Danville 14, John Wood 0
Danville (26-9) hosted the Blazers of John Wood (6-30) in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon where the Jaguars scored twelve runs in the third inning alone to propel them to a quick five inning victory. The Jaguars went ahead 1-0 in the first, then 13-0 after the third, and 14-0 in the fourth and fifth to end the game early. Jocelyn Peal got the win in the circle, throwing three innings, while Dakota Harrison threw the remaining two and earned three strikeouts. 

Alex Brown was 2-4 at the plate with four RBIs, while Ella Myers was also 2-4 at the plate with three RBIs.

Danville 16, John Wood 1
John Wood got on the board first in game two, having a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first before Danville brought across ten runs to go up 10-1. They held the Blazers scoreless through the remaining five innings, while Danville scored two runs in the third, and four in the fourth, giving them the 16-1 victory in five innings.

Danville combined for thirteen hits, with Ella Myers earning four RBIs and Marin Gonski earning three RBIs. Kenzie Fasig got the win in the circle, throwing five strikeouts, while Lauren Kehl earned two strikeouts.

Danville 14, Heartland 13
The Jaguars hosted the Hawks of Heartland (10-17-1) on Sunday where game one went into extra innings. Danville had the 7-4 lead entering the sixth when Heartland scored four runs to take the 8-7 lead. Danville answered with two runs to go back up by one. The Hawks evened it up at 9 a piece in the top of the seventh and held the Jaguars in the bottom of the seventh to go into extras. Both teams scored a run in the eighth, none in the ninth, and two each in the tenth to keep it tied at 12 heading into the eleventh when Heartland scored one in the top half, but Danville walked it off with two to get the 14-13 victory.

Pailei Cripe went 5-6 at the plate with five RBIs, while Chloe Hunt and Kennedy Highley each had two RBIs. Lauren Kehl and Jocelyn Peal each had four strikeouts. 

Danville 3, Heartland 1
The Hawks got on the board first in game two by scoring a run in the top of the second, but the Jaguar's three runs in the fifth put them on top and their defense held off Heartland in the sixth and seventh to get the 3-1 win in game two.

Kaylee Kline had two RBIs and Alyssa Acton had one RBI. Kenzie Fasig got the win in the circle with six strikeouts.

The Jaguars will play again on Friday, April 18th when they host Lincoln Land Community College in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm at Winter Park.
