Conference Wins Over the Cobras for Jaguar Softball

DANVILLE, IL - The Jaguars came out victorious in each game of their doubleheader against the Cobras Thursday afternoon, improving their conference record to 8-4.

Danville 8, No. 23 Parkland 7
Danville (22-9) had the momentum to start game one on the day against Parkland (23-11) after earning two runs in the bottom of the first, and then one more in the second, giving the Jaguars the 3-0 advantage. Parkland responded with one run in the third, then took the lead after their four runs scored in the fifth, making it 5-3 before Danville brought it back within one at the end of the fifth at 5-4. The Cobras brought two more across home plate in the sixth to make it 7-4, then another Jaguar scored in the bottom half to make it a two-run game entering the final inning. Danville was able to hold the Cobras in the top half of the seventh, and then got the bats going to make the comeback. Kaitlyn Drew came in to bat first, earning a single. Marin Gonski was up next, and got herself aboard also with a single due to an error from the Cobra first baseman. The bat was passed to Kennedy Highley who hit a line drive single to centerfield, loading the bases for Alyssa Acton, with no outs. With a pass ball at home plate, Drew was able to advance and score, making the game 7-6 Parkland. Acton was then able to hit a sacrifice fly to center on the next pitch, allowing Gonski to tag up at third and score to tie the game at 7, while Highley advanced to third. With the next batter, Gloria Richardson also hit a sac fly to center, allowing Highley to tag at third and score to win the game, 8-7.
