Jaguar Men's Basketball Goes 1-1 at DACC Classic

Victory against Mid Michigan, Falls to Kalamazoo

DANVILLE, IL - Men's basketball made its return this past weekend for the 2024-25 season as Head Coach DaJuan Gouard and the Jaguars hosted their own Classic Friday and Saturday.

Danville Area Community College (1-1) enters this season with just three returning sophomores from last year's roster, adding eleven freshman, and one transfer. The three returners are coming off of an 18-12 overall record from last year, and are hoping for a better outcome, as well as a deeper postseason run for this season.

The Jaguars started off the year with their first game against the Lakers of Mid Michigan College (1-1) on Friday night where they got the 77-68 win. Offensively, Danville was shooting 50% from field-goal and 3-point range, which helped them stretch to a 12 point lead going into halftime. They also out-rebounded the Lakers in the first half, grabbing 22 boards in comparison to the Lakers 10. Mid Michigan closed the gap slightly in the second half, but couldn't keep up as Danville scored 31 points to seal the deal. The Jaguar's bench scored 38 points, and the points off of turnovers Danville got was 15.

The team's next task was to face Kalamazoo Valley Community College (2-0) who came in the #21 spot in this year's NJCAA Division II Pre-Season polls a couple weeks ago. It was ultimately a back and forth battle between the two teams as the Cougars only held a 7 point lead going into halftime. The Jaguars shot 43.6% from field-goal range and 41.7% from the 3-point line, and held the Cougars to 41.5% in field-goals and 19.4% in 3-pointers, but the turnovers is what ended up hurting Danville the most. Despite a push late in the second half, it wasn't enough as the Cougars drew out the 82-73 victory over the Jaguars.

Up next for Danville is another home game on Wednesday, November 6th when they host the Ancilla College Chargers following the women's basketball game starting at 5:30.
