Men's Basketball Climbs Back Against Lake Land

Jaguars top Lakers in nailbiter

DANVILLE, IL - The Jaguars faced off with a familiar Divison I opponent, Lake Land College, last night. Danville, who has only lost 1 game and has won their last 5, had a solid start against the Lakers for a good part of the first half till they fell to a 10 point deficit at halftime. Ryan Caddell hit 3 3-pointers in the first half alone, while other contributors like Trevin Williams and Lorenzo McMillion added a couple short range jumpers. The Lakers saw contribution from multiple of their own players, and were able to pull away from the Jaguars late in the first half.

Danville was 14-33 from field-goal range, 4-13 from the 3-point line, and 4-8 from the free-throw line all in the first half. Ryan Caddell had 9 points, while Payton Weemer and Trevin Williams each had 8 to start the game. Lake Land was off to a good start in the first 20 minutes with a 56.3 field-goal percentage, a 44.4 3-point percentage, and a 100 free-throw percentage. Tyler Chapman had 13 points while Sean De Kovachich contributed 10.

The Lakers largest lead in the second half was 17 points with 14 minutes remaining. A jump shot from Lorenzo McMillion and a 3-pointer from Jameer Ajibade kick-started the Jaguars push for the rest of the game. Amaahd Roberts, the freshman guard for Lake Land, was the last to score for the Lakers in the 11th minute of the second half as the Jaguars held them in scoring till a couple of made free-throws from the Lakers in the 7th minute. A couple of made 3-pointers from Jaylen Simmons and Donovan Parker added to the team's momentum that gained them a better chance at the win. The Jaguars took the lead on a couple of made free-throws from Jaydin Dunlap, making the score 67-65 with just under 3 minutes remaining. Lake Land tied it up with a made layup, but Danville responded with more made free-throws from Dunlap, Simmons, and Caddell, making the final score 74-70, Jaguars with the win.

Payton Weemer and Ryan Caddell both ended the game with 11 points a piece, while Jaydin Dunlap and Trevin Williams added 10. The Jaguars held Lake Land to 26.7% from field-goals, 28.6% from 3-pointers, and 75% from the free-throw line in the second half. Danville's consistency and grit was what helped the team make the big comeback win against the Lakers.

Danville will play again on their home floor on Thursday, November 30th at 7:30 PM against Malcolm X College, following the Lady Jaguars game at 5:30 PM also against Malcolm X.
