Jaguars Host #1 South Suburban, Lose in OT by 2

Daylen Williams Leads Jaguars with 14 Points, 4 Other Jaguars with Double Figures

DANVILLE, ILLINOIS – Jaguars are known for their hunting ability and fearless mentality towards their competition… This is exactly what Coach Gouard's Jaguars are illustrating and building a fearless mentality.  In an awkward pandemic year, the Jaguars did not have the same amount of prep time as they normally would in a normal athletic year.  Having nearly two weeks to condition his athletes, implement strategy and ready to compete is a tough task in itself; however, the Jaguars scheduled to take on two of the best teams in the state and nation in their first two games of the season.  The Jaguars were bested by former DACC Coach Mike Carpenter's Warriors in game one last Wednesday, only to come back to DACC and take on NJCAA #1 basketball team in the nation South Suburban on Saturday afternoon.

The Jaguars came out hot in the first half, leading the Bulldogs 30-19.  However, it was the Bulldogs who prevailed in the end beating the Jaguars in a hard-fought overtime battle 69-67.  This is not the only tough task the Jaguars are dealing with, besides playing the two of the best teams in the nation, the Jaguars only have eight players on the roster this season, and they are absolutely making the most of it.

Coach Gouard, "Obviously it is tough to play a game with only eight guys, but the eight that we have are battling and competing at a high level.  I love our intensity in the first half, but you can definitely see we need to be better conditioned as we move through the game.  I do believe as the season rolls on, we will be prepared and win these close games. We are never going to back down, even being limited with numbers, taking on a tough South Suburban team as our second game of the year is exactly what we need as we begin to unfold our identity as a team.  I know our guys will get this figured out and we will continue to work towards our goals."

Five out of the eight Jaguars posted double figures which demonstrates the athleticism and character of this team.  Leading the scoring for the Jaguars was Danville native, Daylen Davis-Wiliams with 14 points, freshman Tyshay Epps added 12 points, Ahmoni Weston and Bismarck grad Drew Reifsteck  both chipped in with 11, and Lewis Richards posted 10 in the contest.

The Jaguars will be on the road next as they head to Mattoon, Illinois to take on Lake Land College in a Saturday day game beginning at 3 PM.
