Men's Basketball Falls Short of Overtime Win Against Rock Valley

DANVILLE, IL - The Golden Eagle's defense added a lot of pressure to the Jaguar's offense Thursday night, ultimately ending in an overtime loss for Danville.

The Jaguars (17-3) hosted Rock Valley College (17-7) in a non-conference matchup, where Danville was entered as the #8 seed for week 11 of the NJCAA polls, and the Golden Eagles had received votes. Danville came out in the first half strong, earning the 12-5 lead before the Golden Eagles tied it up at 14 at the twelfth minute. Rock Valley didn't gain the lead till there was just under six minutes left, and ended up with a five point lead at the half (37-32).

It was back and forth in the second half, and with just over a minute to go, Danville's Jordan Dickson was fouled and sent to the line where he knocked down both free throws to go up 66-65. A defensive block made by AP Mitchell gave Danville the ball back where Jeremiah Poniewaz was fouled, ending with another pair of free throws made; Jaguars go up 68-65. With just twenty-four seconds remaining, Rock Valley hits a three-pointer to tie the game. Danville was unable to score down the stretch, sending the game into overtime.

Rock Valley went ahead by three with over two minutes left, and Danville wasn't able to bounce back as the Golden Eagles pulled away, ending the game with a 84-72 victory over the Jaguars.

Jeremy Wilson led Danville with 19 points, while Jeremiah Poniewaz added 13 points.
