Men's Basketball Advances to Region 24 Semifinals

Beat Spoon River 73-64 in opening round

DANVILLE, IL - It was a back and forth battle in game one of the 2025 Region 24 Tournament between Danville and Spoon River, but it was the Jaguars who came out on top, advancing onto the semifinal round.

Third seeded Danville (16-12) hosted six seeded Spoon River (9-17) Tuesday night in a close contest. The Snappers got out to a 5-0 lead to start the game, forcing a couple turnovers on the Jaguars that were converted into points. Danville quickly climbed back though, and tied the game up at nine at the 14:20 mark. The Jaguars would eventually get out to a 23-17 lead with just under seven minutes remaining, before Spoon River would take the lead back a couple minutes later. The first half ended shortly after, Danville being up 36-34 at the half.

The Jaguars hit a couple baskets early in the second half to go up 41-35, but the Snappers had a response. They tied it up once more, this time at 41 a piece, before tying it again at 43 not even a minute and a half later. It stayed this way the remainder of the game, lead changes happening within each couple of minutes. With five and a half minutes to go, Blake Reed hit a clutch three-pointer to put the Jaguars up by four before the Snappers got a three of their own, making it a one point game again at 58-57. Danville slowly started to pull away down the stretch though, getting a couple of defensive stops and making their free throws when they counted most. Dredon Nunn was sent to the line after a foul made from a Snapper. Nunn got both free throws and a layup on the next possession, making it 64-57 Danville. The Jaguars were up by nine with 38 seconds left, where Spoon River got another layup, but it wasn't enough as Danville held onto the lead and got the 73-64 win.

Dredon Nunn was the leading scorer of the game with 20 points, while Blake Reed scored 13, Antoine Franklin Jr. added 12, and Lorenzo McMillion got 11 with 9 rebounds.

With that win, the Jaguars are now in the Region 24 semifinals and will face the #2 seed, Rend Lake College. That game will be played at Spoon River College at 5 pm on Friday, March 7th.
