Men's Basketball Loses to #7 Cobras

CHAMPAIGN, IL - Danville was on a roll in the first half against Parkland College on Wednesday night before the Cobras came back strong in the second half.

The Jaguars (13-8) went up by 7 almost halfway through the first half after a made free-throw from Antoine Franklin Jr., and continued to push against the #7 Cobras (21-2), eventually being up by 10 with a little over 7 minutes to go. Danville was then on a scoring drought for nearly 5 minutes while Parkland continued to attack the board, closing the gap for Danville to only have a 3 point lead going into halftime. A lead change happened at the 12:30 mark when Jeremiah Poniewaz committed a foul on a 3-point attempt, sending a Cobra to the line who made all 3. The Jaguars got the lead back just for a short time before it went back to Parkland, in which they held onto it for the rest of the game. The Cobras stretched the lead to 10 points with 8:42 to go, and never looked back as they got the 80-59 victory over the Jaguars.

Jackson Twombly led Danville with 17 points, while Jeremiah Poniewaz scored 11, and Blake Reed added 9.

The Jaguars will play again on Saturday, February 8th when they host Spoon River College in the Mary Miller Gymnasium at 3 pm.
