Men's Basketball Falls Just Short to Kankakee in Final Regular Season Game

DANVILLE, IL - It came down to a last effort shot from the Jaguars Thursday night in attempt to win the last regular season game of the year, but Danville came up just short of sealing the win.

Danville (15-12) hosted Kankakee Community College (22-8) on sophomore night in the Mary Miller Gymnasium. It was a close battle to start the first half. The Cavaliers would make a basket on their end, and the Jaguars would have a response on theirs. Danville gained the lead just under the ten minute mark after a layup from AP Mitchell, but Kankakee would quickly take back the lead and go up by eight at the half.

The Jaguars found themselves in a hole a few minutes into the second half, going down by sixteen after sending a Cavalier to the free throw line. Danville was down by twelve with a little over six minutes remaining before they attacked the boards and knocked down shots, bringing them within five with over a minute to go. Kankakee knocked down a pair of free throws with twenty-six seconds left, stretching the lead to five again. The Jaguars kept their chances alive when Dredon Nunn hit a three-pointer with nineteen seconds left, making the score 89-87. A Cavalier was fouled on the other end during the next possession where he hit both free throws, making it a 4-point game. Blake Reed got a quick layup, and the Jaguars forced a turnover on the inbound, and a last second three-point attempt from Lorenzo McMillion came up just short, Kankakee winning the game 91-89.

Jackson Twombly was the leading scorer of the game with 19 points, while Antoine Franklin Jr. and AP Mitchell both added 14. Lorenzo McMillion earned a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 boards.

With that game, the 2024-25 regular season is wrapped up, and now the Jaguars await seeds and pairings for the Region 24 Tournament starting next week.
