Men's Basketball Starts Season 1-1 After DATR Classic

DANVILLE, IL - The 2025-26 men's basketball team started their season over the weekend with the DATR Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Jaguars hosted the Illinois Central Cougars, the Wayne County Wildcats, and the Kalamazoo Valley Cougars.

(Friday)
Danville (1-1) started their season against Wayne County (0-2) Friday night with a back and forth battle in the first half. The Jaguars took the lead at halftime at 30-26, and then ran away with it in the second half, outscoring the Wildcats 38-27 to win the game 68-53. 

AP Mitchell was the leading scorer for Danville with 17 points, while Elijah Starks had 12 points, and DeShawn Clark and Jeremy Wilson each added 10.

(Saturday) 
The Jaguars had a bigger test on Saturday as they faced 14th ranked and 2025 3rd place National finisher, Kalamazoo Valley (1-1). The Cougars were able to stretch their lead over Danville throughout the first half till the Jaguars would come back to close the gap. Kalamazoo was only up by 5 at halftime (42-37). The Jaguars had a hard time knocking down shots offensively, shooting 38.6% in field goals in comparison to the Cougar's 48.2%. Kalamazoo maintained their lead in the second half, and closed out the game to get the 85-72 win over Danville. 

DeShawn Clark grabbed 26 points for the Jaguars, while AP Mitchell added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Danville will play again on Saturday, November 8th when they travel to South Holland, Illinois to face #6 South Suburban College at 3 pm.
