Tough Loss for Men's Basketball Against Lincoln Trail

Last second free-throws secures win for Statesmen

DANVILLE, IL - It came down to the final few seconds in last night's contest between the Danville Jaguars and the Lincoln Trail Statesmen as Lincoln Trail took a 1-point lead with just 4 seconds remaining.

Danville (2-4) hosted the Statesmen (5-0) on Tuesday night where fans got an action packed game from beginning to end. The Jaguars didn't allow the Statesmen to stretch their lead past 10 points throughout the first half, as they continued to knock down shots and get defensive stops. For every basket that Lincoln Trail made, Danville had an answer. The score read 39-31 going into halftime, Lincoln Trail with the lead. The Jaguars came out hungry in the second half, cutting the lead to only 1 point early on. A quick jump shot made by AP Mitchell gave Danville just their second lead of the game, making it 57-56 with 9:52 remaining. It was back and forth the whole game, and with 1:10 left, Lorenzo McMillion knocked down a jumper in the paint, making the score 70-68. Lincoln Trail tied it back up, but then fouled on the other end, sending Mitchell to the line, where he knocked down both, giving the Jaguars the 72-70 lead. The Statesmen got the ball back with 16 seconds left, and Danville had a foul to give, but then fouled once more on a 3-point attempt by Lincoln Trail. The Statesmen were able to knock down all 3, making it 73-72, and the last second shot attempt by Danville was unsuccessful, making the final score 73-72.

It was a tough loss for the Jaguars, but they move onto the next as the season is just beginning. AP Mitchell led Danville with 16 points. Lorenzo McMillion scored 13 points, while Jackson Twombly added 12, and Dredon Nunn had 11.

Up next for the team is a road trip to Chicago, Illinois on Tuesday, November 26th to face Prairie State College at 7:30 pm.
