Women's Basketball Goes 1-1 at Lincoln Land Classic

SPRINGFIELD, IL - The Jaguar women's basketball team hit the road over the weekend as they went to Springfield to play in the Lincoln Land Classic hosted by the Loggers.

The first game for Danville (4-1) was on Friday against Lincoln Trail College (2-5) where the Jaguars took a 13-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. Lincoln Trail was able to cut the lead to just one point going into halftime, 22-21, and made the score even at 41 at the end of third. It was Danville though who outlasted Lincoln Trail, as the Jaguars grabbed 11 total rebounds in the fourth, compared to the Statesmens' 6 rebounds. Overall, Danville shot better the whole game in comparison to Lincoln Trail. They had a 31 field-goal percentage and 67.9 free-throw percentage. Victoria Gonzalez led the Jaguars with 14 points, while Tangee Gagau had 11 points, and Ayanna Smith had 10 points, helping Danville get the 59-54 victory.

They were back in Springfield Saturday to face Region 4 opponent, College of Lake County (6-1). Danville got the early 21-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, and were only down by 2 at the end of the second. The Jaguars weren't able to get that late push to send them into a win though, coming up short and getting their first loss of the year, 73-67. Turnovers were a big piece of what hurt Danville, turning the ball over 14 times in comparison to the Lancers' 5. The Jaguars grabbed 28 boards total, and added 14 assists. Ayanna Smith scored 22 points, going 6-9 from the 3-point line, and 7-10 from field-goals. Tangee Gagau had 13 points and Victoria Gonzalez had 12 points.

Danville will play their next game on their home floor against Lincoln Trail on Tuesday, November 19th, starting at 5:30 pm.
